The motorcycle chain is a crucial component of the machine that should never be neglected when it comes to maintenance and care. Otherwise, it can lead to faster wear, expensive replacements, loss of power, and stronger load change reactions. Regular chain maintenance is essential!
A poorly maintained or adjusted chain also poses a safety risk, as it can slip, jump, or even break. Here are some tips:
Regular lubrication, approximately every 300 - 500 km.
The chain must be clean and dry.
Apply chain grease after riding, as applying it before can cause the grease to fling off and dirty the rims, brake, and tires.
Always carry a small can of chain lube on longer motorcycle trips.
Regularly check the chain slack (“tighten the chain”). If the chain is unevenly stretched, it should be replaced.
A permanent lubrication system, such as the Scottoiler, can take care of much of the chain maintenance. Have you any questions about the chain? We would be happy to inspect your motorcycle at the next opportunity!
