Mandatory for two-wheelers? Guidelines for motorcycle first aid kits..

Since February 1, 2022, the new DIN standard 13164:2022 has been in effect for first aid kits according to the StVZO. To what extent this affects motorcyclists, you can find out here...

According to § 35h StVZO, a first aid kit is only mandatory in buses. Therefore, motorbikes and two-wheelers are generally exempt from this first aid kit requirement. Quads, however, are an exception. Regulations for motorcycle first aid kits. As a two-wheeler rider, you don’t have to worry about fines if you don’t carry a first aid kit. You are also not affected by the updated DIN standard.


Nevertheless, it is advisable to carry a first aid kit for emergencies. First aid kits for motorcycles are standardized according to DIN 13167. These kits include:

  • 2x Skin cleansing wipes in hygienic single sachets

  • 1x Adhesive tape roll DIN 13019 - A 5 m x 2.5 cm

  • 1x Assortment of quick wound dressings, 14 pieces, dustproof packaging in PE bag

  • 1x Bandage pack DIN 13151-G sterile

  • 1x Bandage pack DIN 13151-M sterile

  • 1x Bandage cloth DIN 13152-A sterile

  • 1x Scissors DIN 58 279-A 145

  • 1x Emergency blanket, gold/silver 1600 mm x 2100 mm

  • 4x Disposable gloves, size L, DIN EN 455 - 1 and - 2, PVC

  • 1x First aid brochure

  • 1x Contents list
